Ted Chiang is yet another of those science fiction authors whose name I can never remember when I want to recommend a new writer to someone. He writes especially good and interesting stories about time and the implications of knowledge of the future, and also does interesting stories about software intelligences, angels, and at least one really interesting one based on the assumption that all the scientific knowledge had in the 17th century (or so) was absolutely accurate. He also just has a provocative method of telling a story and is well worth the reading. Link, again.
