A turtle walks into the police station ...
… and says “I’ve just been robbed by 2 snails!” The police ask, “What did they look like?” The turtle responds, “I don’t know, it all happened so fast!”

Please see the artwork at the link for more great examples like the one below.  The artist is either Italian or Spanish, not sure which, and apparently only gives his signature as ‘MC.’

New Yorker - Scathing Investigative Piece on... →
In one of the most thorough articles revealing the true nature of Scientology that I’ve ever read in a relatively short read, recent defector Paul Haggis (who, as you’ll read about in the article, has produced, directed and/or written for a number of Hollywood top movies) left the Church of Scientology over a row regarding gay rights.  Beyond Haggis’ story though, the report goes...

Ted Chiang on Writing →
Ted Chiang is yet another of those science fiction authors whose name I can never remember when I want to recommend a new writer to someone. He writes especially good and interesting stories about time and the implications of knowledge of the future, and also does interesting stories about software intelligences, angels, and at least one really interesting one based on the assumption that all the...

Excerpts from this Discover magazine blog entry: “The present form of the human penis, reached over several million years of evolution, was orchestrated by the vagina of the human female.” “Sexual intercourse may be a medium of communication between humans older than language itself.” Read the whole article here.

Ricky Gervais: Why I'm An Atheist →
Excerpt: “So what does the question “Why don’t you believe in God?” really mean. I think when someone asks that they are really questioning their own belief. In a way they are asking “what makes you so special? “How come you weren’t brainwashed with the rest of us?” “How dare you say I’m a fool and I’m not going to heaven, f— you!” Let’s be honest, if one person believed in God he...

A short missive I sent to MS through an MS Office feedback site follows: Why is it impossible to get a useful response from a search in Office 2010’s help.  There are either too many results, none of which seem to apply, or none.  If I press the help button on an error message, I expect a specific help in response, not a generic search page which leads to the first problem, useless...

Karl Schroeder - Sci Fi Writer
I am noting Schroeder here for my own benefit.  He has been writing science fiction (to my knowledge) for the past 10 or 15 years, and has written a number of novels that incorporate many new concepts and ideas which I personally find intriguing, and possibly even likely predictions or projections regarding the future.  Often I want to tell someone else about this guy and at that time, I...

An interview with Larry Hagman on his experiences... →
You may remember Larry Hagman from the night-time soap opera series, Dallas.  Or perhaps you’re as old as I am and remember him in I Dream of Jeannie.  I remember years ago a tiny bit of media hoopla over how he was a hot tub enthusiast and all.  But I’d never previously read the LSD interview. This piece was written by Rick Doblin, and published in a periodical called maps. ...

NPR: Björk, A Celestial Voice →
Part of an NPR series about Great Voices, Björk (pronounced bee-yerk, as mentioned in the broadcast), Icelandic singer, is featured in this article.  There is a link in the article to the audio version of it, so you can hear her voice there. She is unique as a singer.  As a celebrity, I think she has the most public awareness one could have and still completely march to the beat of her own...
